sicknote Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 After changing the Head Gasket on my 1.9tdi it has developed an oil leak. The feed pipe to the turbo has fractured by the union. Wondered if anyone had any experience/tips on how to change the pipe with the turbo still in the vehicle? Quote
chrispb123456 Posted February 25, 2013 Report Posted February 25, 2013 Before the oil pipe can be removed/replaced you need to sacrifice a 17mm spanner to hold the union while the tube nut is turned. It needs to be ground down to fit between the turbo. Quote
sicknote Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks for that, any idea of size so I can get one ready?, I believe this is where the problem came from as the friend that I was working with has now said that he tried to remove the pipe but couldn't, it now appears that it has twisted and fractured! sicknote Posted February 25, 2013 Author Report Posted February 25, 2013 Thanks again but I meant how wide the spanner needed to be so I know how much to grind off, unfortunately my work time is limited so I am trying to get as much ready before hand as possible. Quote
marinabrid Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 ours went a few years ago, as long as you can get under it it was a easy job, i watched my pal do it but he has a ramp as he works in a bus depo so can use the equipment, make sure you secure it as he didnt do this for ours and 2 weeks later it broke again, i wasnt happy he forgot to fasten it down, i think there is a bracket on it, the pipe was £45 so i had to buy 2 ! sicknote Posted March 4, 2013 Author Report Posted March 4, 2013 Managed to do it this weekend and wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I haven't fastened it with the clips yet as I had put them in a 'safe place!' but I figured that there are so many pipes, wires etc surrounding it that it can't possible go anywhere :) Just got to sort out various little leaks and drips left after the head gasket change :( , will it ever end? marinabrid Posted March 4, 2013 Report Posted March 4, 2013 (edited) i think its them little clips that stop it vibrating and moving even a tiny bit, i would make sure they are all done up as this is what caused my pipe to fail after repair. i Edited March 4, 2013 by marinabrid Quote
